Guides for Golf Beginers
I want to learn Golf. The very elementary way is to buy the ‘Golf for Dummies’ from Amazon. But I always look for free resources on the net before making any purchase.
Golfnick has recently been busy helping to bring up the numbers of golfers into the world. He has been organising golf ‘Driving Range Gathering’ session in one of the club nearby my house. Hopefully I would join them one day, and really hope that I could golf together with Michelle Wie (Dreaming :p)…
Here are some guides he posted earlier on ‘How to Start Golfing‘:
1. Try it out first, go to a driving range. Yes, this is the place where you see a number of people taking a stick (it’s call a club) and hitting balls of the turf and in most cases nowadays, a mat.
2. Borrow a friends club (preferably a 7-iron) and try to hit it.
3. If unsuccessful at first, try and try again.
4. Until you are able to hit your first shot and I do mean hit a shot, the feeling is quite exquisite!
5. Then, if you develop an interest in hitting some more, you’re hooked and you start reading more of this blog and other interesting golf blogs or sites.
The equipments you need to prepare:
- A T-shirt, a pair of pants, a pair of socks, a pair of gloves and a pair of sneakers or trainers (your choice).
- Unless you are a very determined person (or bloody rich) and want to start of straight away by buying the latest equipment, I suggest borrowing the golf pros set or getting a set of used clubs. We’ll dwell later into the subject of which types of clubs you should choose from in detail in the upcoming post.
- Next, choose a golf professional attached to the driving range that you feel comfortable with and ask for the number of lessons you would need and off we go.
and finally things to avoid for the starters:
1. Absolutely, DO NOT GO STRAIGHT INTO THE GOLF COURSE!
2. Second, DO NOT ASK YOUR FRIEND TO BE YOUR GOLF PRO! Even if he is a single handicapper!
3. Third, DO NOT PRACTICE YOUR SWING OR HITTING A BALL IN THE LIVING ROOM OR ANYWHERE 2 miles within your house perimeters!
4. Do not start buying everything a golfer needs like golf shoes, balls and the latest drivers. Although if you can afford it, who am I to say what’s right for you!
Until then, happy golfing…
