The Last Suppers

There’s nothing like a couple thousand years of of repetition and an iconic painting by an Old Master to get story to get lodged inside the heads of the creators of pop culture. Leonardo da Vinci’s 15th century depiction of Jesus announcing that one of his 12 disciples would betray him is so iconic that it has been co-opted by those wishing to give weight to their parodies, tributes and caricatures.

What I find interesting is who gets portrayed as Christ and who gets to be his Judas. As many of the pictures as possible are linked to a more detailed version.

Push Button Coffee House

CoffeeHouse01

We’re all familiar with coffee to go, but what about a “To Go” coffee house? The world’s first “instant café” is the brainchild of architect and artist Adam Kalkin, whose work involves the design and implementation of “Quik Houses” created from used shipping containers. The instant coffee house was born out of the concept of crate internet cafés (Where’s there’s a computer, there must be coffee, right?) and redesigned from Kalkin’s Push Button House, which previewed at Art Basel Miami Beach.

The Cargo Café can be delivered just about anywhere by truck. From there, it’s a mere push of a button and a 90 second wait for it to open (which it does like a blooming flower) before the fully furnished café it’s ready for business – lights, tables, seats, even a kitchen are included.

China Pearl - Calendar pirelli 2008

Календарь PIRELLI-2008. "China Pearl".

It was filmed entirely in Shanghai, photographed by Patrick Demarchelier. This is his second calendar. His first was shot in 2005 in Rio. He offered: "The casting was a fascinating mix between the West and the Orient: an interesting group of faces."

The Pirelli Calendar has become an annual publication that belies its origin in 1964 as merely a trade calendar published by the Pirelli company’s UK subsidiary.

The calendar is famous for its limited availability because it is not sold and is only given as a corporate gift to a restricted number of important Pirelli customers and celebrity VIPs. The Pirelli Calendar is perhaps the world’s only prestigious and exclusive "girly" calendar, featuring pictures generally considered glamour photography including artistic nudes.

Publication was discontinued after the 1974 issue as an economising cut back in response to the world recession from the oil shock. It was resurrected 10 years later and has been published regularly since then.

Pricasso - The Pennis Painter

Pricasso

Visitors to the opening day of Sexpo in South Africa today were treated to live demonstrations by Australian artist Tim Patch, alias “Pricasso,” of his penis paintings of famous global figures.

Neither US President George W Bush, former British prime minister Tony Blair nor former Japanese prime minister Junichiro Koizumi were spared the rod as a naked but for a top hat Patch hammered out a series of surprisingly realistic depictions.

Former Brisbane builder Tim Patch was finding it difficult to crack the art market until he dipped his quill in the ink, so to speak.

Under the artistic pseudonym “Pricasso”, Patch uses his penis to paint portraits, landscapes and female nudes.

HDR Photography

HDRPhotography09

HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography puts emphasis on lightning and shadow, which are both given more intensity, it allows a far greater dynamic range of exposures in any given photograph.

This composite technique is different from, and generally of lower quality than, the production of an image from a single exposure of a sensor that has a native high dynamic range. Tone mapping is also used to display HDR images on devices with a low native dynamic range, such as a computer screen.

Below is a set of HDR photos consists of 10 computer generated images, as you can see - most of them are retro-style.

Metro Arts

Komsomolskaya station, Moscow

Komsomolskaya station, Moscow
.

I never know that a Train Station/Subway/Underground/Metro… or whatever you call it, can be so stylish and artistic. Take a look at the galleries of these awsome stations.

The above was Komsomolskaya station in Moscow, built in 1952. It reminds me the Matrix’s fighting scene.

.

Subways need not be boring or dreary! Many operators of metros, subways or underground railways want to attract more passengers with good station design. This often means extra effort and higher costs for the metro operators but it seems to pay when a metro is more than just a means of transport but something the residents can be proud of.

Read below which metro systems double as the world’s longest art galleries and in which cities you can see stunning underground palaces, museums, aquariums, an ancient chapel, or the world’s first example of computer-generated architecture – or simply user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing underground stations. ” Source [Metro Bits]
