For nine days of dirty fun, a quaint South Korean coastal city paints the town a dull shade of mud.
Boryeong says its mud has special powers to refresh the skin and soothe the soul. Last Saturday (July 12) saw the start of its 11th annual Mud Festival, which attracts about 2 million people to the city of a little more than 100,000 located about 190 km (120 miles) southwest of Seoul.

It will be a popular, widely spread and amusing Carnival. It will be an event involving the whole town and its citizens, as well as hundreds of thousands of guests.
The show offered to such a variegated multitude will be direct, immediate and emotional. Music, ballet, theatre, circus and all the arts dear to people’s hearts, will be part of an event whose roots delve many centuries into the past.

The Carnival of Venice is the most important and magnificent of Venetian celebrations, a much appreciated cocktail of tradition, spectacle, history and transgression set in a unique city, a festival that attracts thousands of people each year to the city from around the world.

Girls, please think carefully before you take part in this crazy event; High-Heel Sprint!

Women compete in a high-heel sprint in St.Petersburg July 21, 2007. Some 100 women took part in the race wearing high-heeled shoes with a required minimum height of 9 centimetres (3.5 inches) to compete for a shopping voucher worth 50,000 roubles (about $2,000).

Chinese New Year is here so the Year of the Pig has arrived. The pig, also referred to as a boar, is the last animal of the 12 year lunar cycle. There is a folk tale that explains the order the animals appear in the Chinese zodiac. If you’ve ever read a placemat at many Chinese restaurants you already know that each animal has distinct personality characteristics and the animal sign you are born under influences the life you will have.
Wherever there is a large Chinese population, you can bet you’ll find a celebration. Some places like in Singapore and Taiwan have celebrations over a 15 day period. This is a major time for folks to head out on vacation. I know, I used to live in both countries. We headed out ourselves along with everyone else scrambling for plane tickets. If you’re traveling to any of these places, be prepared that some businesses may not be open, at least not if they are run by a Chinese person. This is the time for visiting family and relaxation.
